Aviation capacity

Commenting on the options for a third runway outlined by Heathrow Airport today, Dr Adam Marshall, Director of Policy at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), said:

“Businesses across Britain need the best possible air links if they are to deliver growth, jobs and investment. For that reason, we support the expansion of our global hub airport at Heathrow, as well as new runways at other airports in the South East, such as Gatwick and Stansted. All three airports have private-sector investors who stand ready to invest in increased capacity, which is absolutely critical at a time of public-sector financial constraint.

“Increased aviation capacity in the South East will help to drive international trade, encourage inward investment, attract tourists and create jobs. So too will a concerted effort to develop new routes to global markets from great regional cities like Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

“While Britain dithers on aviation capacity, others do.
