Business Grants Available

Written by Paula Devine | 11 Dec 2013

As part of Central Bedfordshire Council’s ‘Travel Choices’ programme, businesses in Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Leighton Buzzard can benefit from a £3,000 grant to improve staff facilities at your premises.

With the average car parking space costing around £400 per annum in maintenance costs, reducing car usage can make a real difference to your bottom line as well as making your business a more attractive place to work for both existing and prospective employees.

The Business Travel Grant Scheme provides up to £3,000 to fund site infrastructure improvements such as new cycle shelters, showers and changing rooms. A number of businesses have already started benefitting from the grant.

Symology Limited recently received a grant that enabled them to install showers at their Kensworth Gate offices in Dunstable. The new facility is extremely popular with staff who can now consider cycling to appointments rather than driving. In addition, the grant has helped the business with its ISO 14001 Environmental Managements System certification. Ascertiva Group Limited of Houghton Hall Business Park have also taken advantage of the grant, installing a cycle shelter as well as an electric vehicle charging point for their electric pool car. These measures have reduced the cost of staff business travel expenses considerably.

Employees can also join an Employer Travel Club which gives staff 10% discounts on Arriva season tickets and a range of leisure offers for all the family. Travel Choices will pay a business’s year 1 member costs with Arriva, typically only £100 per annum - a great way to boost your employee benefits package.
