Centrality has announced its nominated charity of choice after a staff vote for 2017 as Macmillan Cancer Support ahead of plans to raise £7,000 during the course of the year, starting with a special fundraising launch day held Friday 17th February.
Macmillan Cancer Support assists people affected by cancer to obtain the support they need in various areas of their life at the key points of their journey through the illness, from diagnosis through treatment and on to the days and months following recovery. Services include befriending, complementary therapies, professional support, social events and mutual support.
Macmillan focuses its attentions on a local basis, offering a range of practical, medical, emotional and financial help and support groups, benefit advice services and information centres throughout the United Kingdom.
Local Support
Centrality Managing Director Mike Davies wanted to back the charity’s support offering locally to Centrality’s HQ in Bedfordshire. He says, “We are eager to support the fantastic work that goes on as our company ethos has always been to procure and establish close working relationships within the local business sector, so to support and have Macmillan Bedfordshire as our charity of choice during 2017 was a natural partnership for us”.
Jessica Zaremba is the fundraising manager of Macmillan Bedfordshire. She told Centrality, “By 2020, nearly 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. It is vital that no one faces this alone and support is available for people and their families when they need it most. Macmillan provides services to support people with cancer and their loved ones from the moment they’re diagnosed, through their treatment and beyond. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who’ll listen if people just want to talk; Macmillan is there.”
Centrality’s fundraising efforts will include cake sales, cycling events, a curry and quiz night and National No-Smoking Day as well as numerous other events including a ‘tough mudder’ and the Cotswold Ultra Challenge in which participants must walk, jog or run up to 100Km cross country from Bath to Cheltenham.
Fun Fundraising
Mike Davies was keen to bring the Centrality team together in their efforts for Macmillan, which to his mind meant the fundraising activities had to involve a large element of fun. “Fun fundraising is great for teambuilding and bringing us all together as a company. Family and friends are all welcome to join in too,” he said.
Centrality kicked off its commitment to its chosen charity of choice Macmillan on Friday 17th February 2017 with a homemade food sale at Centrality HQ, and plenty of staff have been donning their oven gloves and consulting their recipe books this week with a view to raising as much as possible today to get the year’s fundraising off to a stellar start.
“A Helping Hand, Right Here and Now”
Macmillan Cancer Support considers itself a ‘source of support and a force for change’, saying, “We are about giving people a helping hand right here and now. That’s our role.”
Jessica Zaremba said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Centrality throughout 2017 to create awareness of Macmillan, as well as raising much needed funds to help people affected by cancer.”
