Millbrook Military Challenge

Written by Paula Devine | 17 Jun 2013

On Tuesday 18th June, more than 180 people will tackle the Millbrook Proving Ground’s second running of the Millbrook Alpine DVD (M.A.D) challenge, a gruelling 5k Alpine and off-road race, to again raise money for Help for Heroes.

Home of the UK MoD’s Battlefield Mission and set in 700 acres of tricky terrain, Millbrook’s world renowned Alpine Route and Off-Road course will again play host to the M.A.D challenge on the eve of DVD 2013, a two day event for those involved in the equipment support and sustainment for the UK’s Armed Forces.

The race takes competitors through a variety of terrains, from sinking in sand and gravel to scrambling up steep hills. The finish line is strategically placed at Millbrook’s Wading Pond, with runners splashing their way to the end of the course.

“Mad is definitely the right word to describe Millbrook’s 5k challenge”, said Julian Bryan, head of military strategies and business innovation at Millbrook. “We are delighted by the number of organisations that have again put teams forward for the M.A.D race, with runners from Lockheed Martin, Navistar and Jacobs Technology and Defence to name but a few, and we would like to say thank you to these organisations for their generous support and participation.”

“Last year we raised nearly £4000 for Help for Heroes – and we would love to beat that total this time round. As one of the largest employers in central Bedfordshire, Millbrook Proving Ground is always keen to involve its staff and partners in exciting activities that help build strong relationships and support charities,” continued Julian.

Entry is restricted to DVD exhibitors/guests and invited personnel but donations to support the participants and Help For Heroes are very welcome.  More information on the M.A.D challenge can be found at http://www.bmycharity.com/MAD2RunItAgain
