Rotary Bandstand for Luton

Written by Paula Devine | 07 Mar 2016

We have just been informed that the Rotary Bandstand for Luton Charitable Trust has won planning permission to build its proposed new 21st century bandstand in Grade II Listed Wardown Park.

Following consultation with statutory bodies and local interest groups, the design by architects Mills Power Ltd has been approved. It will provide a much needed permanent focal point for festivals and musical events held in the park for local communities every year, located on the site of the former bandstand. The pavilion's lightweight  timber, glass and steel canopy and superstructure will compliment the Edwardian architecture of the park's existing features, including the newly restored suspension bridge, whilst its openness will maintain uninterrupted the sweeping vistas and pathways enjoyed by all visitors.

Part of the life of the park, the Bandstand is envisaged as a key piece of Luton cultural infrastructure that will accommodate all types of performance.
