Shuttleworth College: Facebook for Farmers

Written by Paula Devine | 24 Jan 2013

Shuttleworth College has a reputation for agricultural excellence which spreads across the globe.

For decades the top class centre has been training people in all areas of farming, animal welfare and land management.

Keeping in touch with ex-students in Canada, Africa and beyond has been a major challenge for the alumni association - but now a modern solution has been presented by Bedford College.

Calling upon the advice of social media marketing expert Lee Parker, part of the Bedford College award-winning team, the association can now use Facebook and Linked-In to keep in touch with those far flung former students.

Shuttleworth College became part of Bedford College in 2009 and since the has been able to share its expertise with an ever-wider range of students. Now 1,000 attend the college each year and a wider range of course are available including apprenticeships. International students benefit from courses and make use of the residential student facilities.

Now all of them can link up via social media. Said Lee Parker: “We took the opportunity to train up some of the key members in December so they could get log on over the festive season and we will be helping them produce an e-newsletter to send all over the globe.”
