Written by Paula Devine | 25 Nov 2015

‘I found it great as I didn’t have much idea what to do but I have lots of ideas now’

‘Very detailed information – I loved it’

‘It was one of the best trips I have ever had’

Just three comments on the feedback from the students who attended the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce’s very first Your Future event held at Kings House in Bedford.

A selection of schools from the area brought along Year 10 and 11 pupils. Chamber members were there with hands-on activities for the students to try, including a Virtual Reality Headset from Lockheed Martin letting the young people experience the thrills of a roller coaster; building a tower with marshmallow and dried spaghetti with London Luton Airport; matching personal characteristics with jobs from Bedford College; information on driving safely with the Crash Test Dummies from Millbrook Proving Ground; carrying a tray of cocktails (made from jelly!) with Center Parcs; careers in the Army with the boys in uniform; information on football coaching and referee coaching with Bedfordshire FA (they also provided a goal to shoot the ball at– many Mars bars given away on successful shooting! Other members provided activities and information which the students enjoyed.

Chambers of Commerce across the UK are participating in this government funded project. The events are for young people aged 14-24 to inspire, enthuse and motivate them to think about prospective careers, the employment options available to them and to make the most of their remaining time in education.

The next event will be held in Luton at the Carnival Arts Centre on
Thursday February 25th from 0930 – 1530
